We are absolutely thrilled to announce the appointment of the coach leading our Women's State League team back into competition: Charlotte Whinnen!
Charlotte is announcing the start of a new era for Sturt Women’s State League, marking our team's official return to the competition after not participating since our last appearance as the Blue Warriors in 2021 (when the joint Blue Warriors team became exclusive to Woodville).
This is somewhat of a homecoming for Charlotte. She was a key player in that previous State League iteration, and now she returns to lead the charge, bringing exceptional experience and a vision focused squarely on the future of Sturt Lacrosse.
"This is an incredibly exciting opportunity," Charlotte shares. "To coach the returning Sturt Women's State League team is an honour. What truly excites me is the sheer talent pool in our junior programs. We have a fantastic pathway, and I see my role as guiding these young athletes to fulfil their potential in the State League. We're not just building a team for this year; we're building a sustainable powerhouse for the future."
🌟 A Champion Returns to the Rebuild
Charlotte's arrival adds significant momentum to the club's resurgence. Since our new clubrooms became available for a full season in 2023, Sturt has focused on strengthening and growing every program.
Charlotte now joins her brother, Jesse Whinnen, as a new member of the club, further uniting the Sturt Lacrosse family and reinforcing our commitment to excellence across all grades.
Charlotte's passion lies in development, a perfect fit for Sturt's aspirations. Her experience coaching at the Under 15 and Under 18 State levels means she is already deeply familiar with the dedication and skill required to transition from junior to senior elite competition. Her recent achievement as Assistant Captain for Australia's inaugural Women's Box Lacrosse National team also ensures she brings a current, high-performance perspective to the squad.
Charlotte Whinnen: Proven Leadership
Charlotte's career spans over 20 years as a high-level player and dedicated coach, demonstrating a profound commitment to the game and a proven ability to lead.

Her inaugural season in this new era of State League is set to be one of energy, high standards, and a focus on player growth from our junior depth. We look forward to watching her lead our Women's State League team back into competition and towards a successful future.
Please join us in giving Charlotte Whinnen a huge Sturt welcome!
